[2010-03-18] Tax Administration expands text messaging service

The Tax Administration announces the expansion of its Tax Reminder System (TAXREM), which now allows persons to receive text message reminders and notices for additional services on their cellular phones.

With the expansion of TAXREM, which was first introduced in August 2009, the system now has the capacity to automatically send text message reminders and notices in relation to:

Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate expiry.
Certificate of Fitness expiry.
Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC) pick-up/expiry.
GCT, Income Tax and PAYE filing &/or paying dates.
Stamp and Transfer documents pick-up.

The public is invited to sign-up for this free service by:
1. Contacting the Tax Administration’s Customer Care Centre at 1-888-TAX-HELP (1-888-8294357) or 902-9463, or
2. Visiting the Tax Administration’s online portal www.jamaicatax-online.gov.jm, creating a login if they do not already have one. Once logged in, persons may register under the Tax Reminders link/option, or
3. Visiting any Tax Office, speaking with a Taxpayer Service Officer and completing the relevant form.

It should be noted that to sign up persons simply need to enter/have available their TRN, date of birth, mother’s maiden name, their cellular number and an email address (optional). Then select the service they wish to be reminded of. For the motor vehicle reminder option, persons should have available the licence plate number(s) for the particular vehicle(s).
Persons, who are already signed up for TAXREM, can update their information online to indicate the additional reminder/notices they would like to receive.
