No Change in Property Tax due for fiscal year 2014-2015
Property owners are advised that Property Tax for the 2014-2015 fiscal year, which is due April 1, has not been increased and therefore payment remains the same as last year. Persons will have until the end of April to pay in full or to make a first instalment. Payments made after April 30 may attract a 10% penalty.
Persons are reminded that Property Tax payments may be made in full or half-yearly or quarterly instalments. Half-yearly instalments are due on April 1 and October 1, while quarterly instalments are due on April 1, July 1, October 1, and January 1.
Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) offers a number of options for paying Property Tax:
- Payments may be made via the TAJ online payment portal at www.jamaicatax-online.gov.jm. The online service offers a very convenient option as it gives access to persons both locally and overseas on a 24 hour basis, from their homes, offices or elsewhere. Online users need to have available the valuation number(s) of the property(s) and a valid major credit card.
- Payments may be made at any of the 29 tax offices located across the island. Electronic drop boxes are at select tax office locations which may be used to make cheque payments, instead of joining the cashiering line.
- Persons may also pay their Property Tax on Saturdays between the hours of 10:00am to 4:00pm at the Portmore tax office.
Persons who are in arrears for previous years are cautioned that action may be taken against them for the overdue amounts. Outstanding property taxes are to be paid using any of the options available. Persons having a difficulty paying the outstanding amounts are advised to visit the nearest tax office to make an arrangement to pay. It should be noted that the 10% penalty for late payment for amounts outstanding for the 2013 – 2014 period, which was delayed, will be applied on April 1, 2014.
