Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) continues to make its contribution to the overall economic reform programme of the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) by making tax collection equitable and transparent. To this end, TAJ has progressed with the establishment of an independent Objections Unit since the start of the new financial year.
The new unit which was established in April 2017 will have operations in Kingston, St. Andrew, Mandeville and Montego Bay and comprises approximately forty (40) staff, being led by a Senior Technical Specialist.
The concept of such an operation reflects the best practices of other modern tax administrations around the world. It will also provide a greater level of transparency for the review of final decisions arrived at by the Revenue Appeals Division, thereby strengthening the confidence of appellants in the decisions taken by the revenue authority.
