Minimum Business Tax Due September 15

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reminding Companies and individuals in business including partners and self-employed persons, that the second instalment of $30,000 for the Minimum Business Tax (MBT) is due on September 15.

Notably, the MBT applies to a company or body corporate and specifically to businesses incorporated or registered under the Companies Act, Building Societies Act, Friendly Societies Act or the Industrial and Provident Societies Act.

For individuals The MBT applies to those who are carrying out a trade vocation or profession and whose annual gross revenue is equal to or more than 3 million dollars. The 3 million dollars must not include salaries and wages.

It should also be noted that registered charities are exempt from paying the Minimum Business Tax.

Taxpayers are advised that the MBT payment for the year is $60,000 payable in two instalments on June 15 and September 15. Outstanding amounts will attract the applicable charges.

For convenience taxpayers can now pay their MBT online or they may download and complete the pay advice and take it in along with their cash.
