This tax season Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) will focus on helping hundreds of small business and self-employed persons to register and file online using TAJ’s eServices option. This kind of support is now underway across the island through TAJ’s annual Special Taxpayer Assistance Programme (STAP), which will run until March 31. These free sessions are designed to assist business owners and self-employed individuals with a gross annual income of less than $5M, to prepare their Income Tax Returns which become due on March 15.
Employers will be able to benefit from these sessions as well, as TAJ personnel will be assisting this taxpayer group to prepare and file their Annual Employers Return, which becomes due on March 31. Additionally, small and micro business persons can get registered to file their General Consumption Tax (GCT) Return online, which becomes mandatory on April 1.
TAJ personnel will be offering support to guide taxpayers through the online filing process, as well as provide assistance with the preparation of the relevant forms and documentation. A list of locations for these STAP sessions may be found on the TAJ website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm along with other information and documents related to Income Tax.
TAJ will be engaging several small business associations to bring STAP sessions to their respective memberships to help them to file online and on time. These associations include the Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC), Young Entrepreneurs Association (YEA), Realtors Association of Jamaica (RAJ) and the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC), which will benefit from these special support sessions being held at the offices of the respective organizations.
Taxpayers wishing to avail themselves of these free sessions are asked to take their business documents, such as Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN), bank statements, purchase invoices, expense receipts, sales record, utility bills and any other records that can be used to verify their income and expenses when attending the sessions.
