Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is advising that beginning Wednesday, July 29, 2015 the public began to see an ease in the shortage of Private Motor Vehicle Licence Plates, with the delivery of an initial amount of plates from our suppliers. These were distributed to the main tax offices across the island.
A shipment of raw material is expected in the island later this week and our suppliers have committed to working through the weekend as well as operating extended hours to supply us with additional plates beginning Monday, August 3, 2015. It is expected that the current shortage will be alleviated by mid-August.
In the interim, TAJ’s operations team made contact with automobile dealers to determine the number of plates currently required by them, and how their demands will be satisfied as our supplier ramps up production between now and mid-August. Other affected customers will be served through the large tax offices initially based on the limited supplies.
Please be reminded that persons in possession of their old licence plates may choose to transfer those plates to licence their new vehicle.
TAJ again apologises for the inconvenience caused and will continue to work with its supplier to ensure that the situation is alleviated.
