Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reminding business operators that their GCT return for the month of October is due on Friday, November 28, 2014. This is as a result of registered taxpayers, as of October 1, 2014, being required to make their monthly GCT Returns and payments on the last working day of the month, after the end of the taxable period.
The GCT Act was recently amended to bring about the change in the due date for the filing of monthly GCT returns. Previously, GCT returns were due on the last day of the month, and where the last day of the month was on a weekend or public holiday, taxpayers would have until the next working day to submit the return without being late. However this arrangement NO longer applies, as the Government of Jamaica has moved to ensure that collections can be accounted for in the month they are due.
TAJ continues to make it easy for persons to pay their taxes by using our online payment option. Business Operators can log on to the Tax Portal at www.jamaicatax-online.gov.jm to file and pay their GCT Returns using a valid credit card. Business persons are being encouraged to use our online payment option as the Tax Administration’s online service accommodates the filing and payment of all major tax types.
In addition to the online option, business persons are reminded that GCT Returns filed and paid may be made at any of the 29 tax offices. Persons paying by cheque may also pay using the electronic drop boxes located in main tax offices.
Taxpayers are therefore advised that GCT returns filed and paid after the last working day of the month will be considered late and the necessary penalties and interest charges will be applied.
