All business persons registered to collect GCT are reminded that they are now required to file GCT returns online via Tax Administration Jamaica’s online portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm. This means that effective April 1, 2018, GCT Returns for all categories of business persons MUST be filed using TAJ’s online facility.
As a result, all GCT taxpayers MUST electronically file their Returns due April 30, as TAJ has implemented the final phase of its mandatory requirement of the online filing of all GCT Returns. Since November 2017 TAJ has been supporting Small and Micro Business persons to make the transition, as they represent the final taxpayer group to be included in the mandatory requirement change.
To assist small and micro businesses to transition to filing GCT returns online, TAJ continues to provide training support to persons identified in this phase of the mandatory e-filing requirement. Taxpayers can therefore, make arrangements for eOne-on-One sessions to train their staff or request an Advisory Visit at their business location to get assistance on the procedure to e-file returns.
Statistics for the month of March indicate that the e-Filing rate for all GCT Returns on average stood at 60%, which coincides with the tax authority’s continued programme to sensitise businesses of the mandatory online filing requirement.
Business persons are reminded that GCT returns filed and payments made after the last working day of the month, will be considered late and the necessary penalties and interest charges applied.
Persons may contact the TAJ Customer Care Centre at 1-888-Tax-Help (1-888-829-4357) for further information.
