This tax season Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) will be helping hundreds of small businesses and self-employed persons to meet their tax filing obligations with a focus on registering them to file online using TAJ’s eServices option. This kind of support is now underway across the island through TAJ’s annual Special Taxpayer Assistance Programme (STAP). These free sessions are designed to assist business owners and self-employed individuals with a gross annual income of less than $5M, to prepare their Income Tax Returns which become due on March 15.
TAJ personnel will be offering support to guide taxpayers through the online filing process, as well as provide assistance with the preparation of the relevant forms and documentation. A list of locations for these STAP sessions may be found on the TAJ website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm along with other information and documents related to Income Tax and Corporate Income and Assets Taxes which have are mandatory to be filed online on or before March 15.
TAJ will be engaging several small business associations to bring STAP sessions to their respective memberships to help them to file online and on time. In the prior years these associations included the Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC), Young Entrepreneurs Association (YEA), Realtors Association of Jamaica (RAJ) and the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC), which benefitted from these special support sessions held at the offices of the respective organizations.
Taxpayers wishing to avail themselves of these free sessions are asked to take their income and expenditure statements, Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) and valid identification which can be used to verify their income and expenses when attending the sessions.
Employers will also be able to benefit from these sessions which will extend to the end of March, TAJ personnel will be assisting this taxpayer group to prepare and file their Annual Employers Return (S02), which becomes due April 1, this year, as the usual March 31 due date falls on a Sunday.
