Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is in the process of undertaking several customer service enhancements geared to further improving the customer service experience for persons doing business with the Tax Authority. Commissioner General Ainsley Powell revealed plans at the Institute of Chartered Accountants’ (ICAJ) Taxation Seminar held in Kingston on Wednesday September 25, 2019.
The TAJ head indicated that taxpayers can soon expect an enhanced online experience when TAJ rolls out its upgraded Enterprise Tax Portal during the current financial year. The current Tax Portal (www.jamaicatax.gov.jm) will be refreshed to provide more usability with enhanced features to include;
- Cleaner, more user-friendly content layout
- Customer segmentation for easier navigation of the website i.e. Personal vs. Business
- Subscription application
- Improved customer feedback feature and survey instruments
- Page rendering & Speed optimization
Additionally, “Tax Administration Jamaica has been working in collaboration with its servicepartner eGov Jamaica Limited in the development of a mobile application”, stated Commissioner General Powell. The initial release of the app, which is to take place in the current financial year, would allow users to pay Property Tax and query their Property Tax status using their mobile device, with a view to subsequently making additional transaction offerings available, to include motor vehicle registration and the payment of traffic fines.
The ICAJ membership was reminded that the Tax Authority continues to place a premium on its customer service delivery, and that TAJ has gone further in this area as it is currently engaged in seeking the ISO 9001 certification for its St. Andrew Revenue Service Centre location. The certification of this TAJ location, will further instil confidence in the business community and potential clients, that internationally recognized quality management standards and processes will be maintained, with a focus on meeting the customer’s needs.
The initiative forms part of a GOJ mandate through the Public Sector Transformation Programme, and also ties in with TAJ’s strategic direction to become a world class tax administration.
