Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ), through its Special Enforcement Team (SET) recently conducted two operations in the parish of Clarendon with the assistance of the members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), resulting in the arrest of two delinquent taxpayers for outstanding taxes.
Principal Director of People Favourite Baking Company Limited in May Pen, Clarendon, Pauline Decarlo Ferron was arrested on a Warrant of Disobedience after failing to appear in court on a summons served by the tax authority. Ms. Ferron was arrested on March 10, 2015 after failing to show for her court date, to answer to a matter of outstanding Company Income Tax (CIT) amounting to approximately $3.2M. She was granted bail in the sum of $50,000 and is to return to court on April 13, 2015.
Businessman Christopher Dempster operator of Chris Rock Restaurant in Spauldings, Clarendon, was also arrested on a Judgement Order on February 26, 2015. The action taken against the delinquent taxpayer was the result of him failing to honour his tax obligations as well as for non-compliance with a Court Order issued on February 26, 2014 for failure to settle outstanding General Consumption Tax (GCT) of approximately $300,000 after being ordered to do so by a Resident Magistrate.
Tax Administration Jamaica continues to urge persons to seek dialogue with them to discuss payment arrangement facilities to remain compliant. Chronic delinquency will result in robust enforcement and court action. Persons may get further information on payment arrangement facilities by contacting the nearest Tax Office.
