TAJ Supporting Local Businesses through Taxpayer Education

Tax Administration Jamaica continues to support local entrepreneurs and will bring tax services and free consultancy, to the annual YEA (Young Entrepreneurs Association) Expo being held at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre on Thursday November 24, 2016. This year, business persons are able to avail themselves of several tax services to include Property Tax query and payment, Tax Registration Number (TRN) application, view a live demonstration and register free for the Revenue Administration Information System (RAiS) as well as get tax advice.

The tax authority has significantly ramped up its taxpayer education activities to provide local entrepreneurs with value added services, and continues to invest in this taxpayer segment, which is evident in its recent involvement in Global Entrepreneurship Week 2016 in which it participated in panel discussions, demonstration of tax service platforms and providing advice to start-ups about their rights and obligations.

TAJ has also introduced a sensitization campaign targeting Medium (upper and lower) taxpayers about the mandatory e-Filing requirement for General Consumption Tax (GCT) which becomes effective January 1, 2017. Taxpayers falling in this category are as follows:
  • Annual sales of $150M - $1B
  • Annual tax payments of $30M - $500M
Business persons may get tax support by visiting the tax website at, calling the toll free customer support line at 1-888-829-4357 or visiting any tax office to request one-on-one e-support sessions in which TAJ personnel will visit the business and train staff on how to file and pay the easy way.

Tax Administration Jamaica supports local entrepreneurship and will continue to provide professional value added services and education to help businesses stay compliant while paying their fair share.

For more information on tax support programmes for businesses, persons may contact the TAJ Customer Care Centre at 1-888-Tax-Help (1-888-829-4357) toll-free or visit the website at
